Jo Fageant

"I have been a member of Reading Inter Faith Group and its committee almost from its beginnings. I am an Anglican Christian and a religious education teacher by training. Like many people of my age I had little understanding of the adventure on which I was embarking when I chose to become a teacher of RE. I had learned little about faiths other than Christianity in my lessons as a pupil at school so my university course was a wonderful eye-opener. Far more exciting, however, have been the opportunities, since leaving college, of meeting, talking and becoming friends with people of many different faiths. My own faith, life and teaching have all been much enriched by these relationships.

I now work as a religious education adviser for a number of local authorities and the Diocese of Oxford. It is a privilege to be able to spend so much time on such a fascinating subject and my involvement in interfaith groups helps me to take my support of teachers beyond textbook representations of religion."
