January- Festival of Lights.
8th February-
At a meeting organized at the Civic Centre with the Community Relations
officer and Reading Council for Racial Equality, to discuss war in the
gulf, no body there had heard of the Reading Interfaith Group!
25th February-
Publicly leaflets are organized. It was agreed the phrase “paths
to God” be changed to "spiritual paths." Leaflets are
to be made available in libraries, teachers centres and teachers meetings.
Sunday 18th
May- Visit to Jain centre at Leicester and Islamic Foundation at the
Markfield Centre.
3rd March- Meeting at Reading Synagogue to celebrate Purim.
Monday 29th April-"An Ecumenical approach to Easter" is held
at St William of York. Rev. Hugh Ellis provides the Anglican contribution.
Saturday 18th
May- Summer outing to Leicester (or 22nd) Reading Interfaith Group visit
the Jain temple followed by the Islamic foundation. Although "Impressions
were shared of the beautiful Indian craftsmanship which had been seen
in the Jain Temple and the educational nature of the relaxed afternoon
at the Islamic Foundation.” this trip ran at a financial loss.
It was agreed that any future outing would be cancelled if there are
insufficient numbers to break even.
9th June- Summer
picnic at The Abbey, Sutton Courtney.
24th June- Members of Reading Interfaith Group attend a talk given by
Indarjit Singh, editor of the Sikh Messenger and a broadcaster on Radio
4's thought for the day at Park United Reform Church.
5th July-The Mayor of Reading Robert Dimmock agrees to be a patron of
Reading Interfaith Group.
Sunday 6th October- Reading Interfaith Group hold a workshop on "Growing
up in a Faith Community" at St Mary’s House.
24th October- United Nations Day celebration at Friends Meeting House
on a theme "Youths and their Faiths." attended by the mayor.
Tuesday 12th November- Music and dance from children of the Gurukula
(school) of Iskcon. (international school of Krishna Consciousness)
